Ex-Welder Handed 12 Months Sentence For Assaulting Wife

A retired welder has been handed 12 months imprisonment for assaulting his wife with a metal aluminum rod multiple times.

The offender and the victim have been married for more than 30 years and were in their fifties when the offence took place.

High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar said the offence committed by the offender was objectively serious.

He said the purpose of the sentence was deterrence, both special and general. A permanent domestic violence restraining order with standard non-molestation conditions was issued against the offender for the protection of the victim.
