Extending Land Lease Is A Top Priority

The extension of the sugarcane farm land lease terms to 50 years from 30 years is a top priority for the Ministry of Sugar.

Minister responsible, Charan Jeath Singh, outlined this plan as a viable solution to ensure young sugarcane farmers are encouraged to join and remain in the farming industry.

During a growers consultation at the Waiqele sector in Labasa last Friday an elderly farmer in his 70s, Osea Waqaninavatu, , asked Mr Singh about initiatives his ministry had to attract and encourage youths to join sugarcane farming.
