Facelift for Labasa Hospital Accident and Emergency Unit

It is committed to supporting emergency services and has previously provided $2.5million for the extension of hospital’s emergency center in 2009.

The Labasa Hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) Centre will undergo a major facelift soon.

This follows the signing of a contract last Friday between the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and Korea InternationalCooperation Agency (KOICA).

Minister for Health and Medical Services Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu expressed his appreciation for thesupport from KOICA.

The centre, which looks after emergency services, operates 24 hours for seven days a week. KOICA director, Kapchae Ra said, the center played a crucial role in safeguarding the lives of Fijians.

It is committed to supporting emergency services and has previously provided $2.5million for the extension of hospital’s

emergency center in 2009.

It has also cooperated with the ministry to build a rehabilitation centre in Suva and a simulation centre in the Fiji National

University.

It was highlighted that the Ty- FIVE Project has been successful in reducing the number of typhoid cases in the Northern Division.

Professor Kim Mulholland of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute also remarked that the outcome of the project in Fiji would serve as a valuable guideline for Pacific Island countries and this was well received by all parties involved.
