Mr Lord was claimed the Best Sports Photography award for his striking images capturing Fiji’s most memorable sporting moments.

His award-winning picture, titled Celebration, Defeat and Thanksgiving, captured the Ratu Kadavulevu School Under-17 team defeating Marist in the 2024 Deans final. The same squad went on to win the Under-18 title this year.

“This is the best birthday gift I could ask for,” Mr Lord said.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank everybody for believing in me.”

Earlier this year, Mr Lord battled a diabetes-related amputation that almost derailed his career.

Mr Lord dedicated his award to his fellow photographers, highlighting the collective effort behind every great image.

“This is a testament to what we can achieve together. I share this with all my colleagues who have supported me along the way,” he said.

He also offered encouragement to young photographers, emphasizing perseverance and passion.

“It’s been a journey, and I’ve come this far. If I can do it, you can do it too,” Lord added.

The award cements Leon Lord’s reputation as one of Fiji’s top sports photographers and made his birthday a night to remember, combining personal celebration along with his personal achievements.
