The late Police Constable Eremasi Esikana was a popular figure among family and friends in the community he lived in, in Rakiraki.

He will always be remembered for his kind nature and humble personality.

Diagnosed with a brain tumour late last year Mr Esikana passed away last week after he was unable to recover.

He had gone for treatment in India in June this year.

He was laid to rest at Namuimada Village, Rakiraki on Saturday.

Tokasa  Likutabu said her son left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

“He was a hardworking person, very brave and socialised well with people. Even his relatives and their workmates knew him as a jovial person,” she said.

“He will be missed by us and his adoptive parents for his respectful attitude.”

Mr Esikana attended Navitilevu Primary School from Year One to Year Four and Navolau Primary School from Year Five to Year Eight.

After his primary education, a mutual agreement with his parents granted the adoption of Eremasi to his teacher Krishneel Sami who noticed his potential despite his frequent absenteeism.

He went on to successfully complete his studies at Penang Sangam High School and became a police officer at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova in 2017

Mr Esikana’s relationship with the Sami family came to a point where he became involved in Indo Fijian customs such as performing Hindu rituals during Mr Sami’s father’s funeral.

The loss heavily affected the Esikana and Sami families who were both instrumental in raising him from a young age till his passing.

While handing over the Fiji Flag to both Families, Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu told both families that they should be proud of Mr Esikana’s achievements and the turnout of the funeral reflected the positive lessons they taught the young lad.

Mr Esikana’s total time of service with the Fiji Police Force was one year and three months. He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
