Family in Shock After Fire Razed Home

A family was left devastated after the flat they were living in was destroyed in a fire at Nasoki Street, Lautoka midday yesterday.
The family, still in shock over their loss, was not ready to comment on the incident.
Neighbours who witnessed the fire expressed their concern and relief that no one was harmed during the incident.

National Fire Authority (NFA), arrived at the scene promptly and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes.
NFA chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said fire officers arrived at the scene at 12.03pm and noticed a concrete and wooden house, consisting of three flats, fully engulfed in flames.
“They immediately established one delivery of two lengths from tank supply to stop the fire from further spreading towards adjacent houses just metres away,” Mr Sowane said.
“They managed to extinguish the fire with support from a fire hydrant at Vitogo Parade and officers were still at the scene at 4pm extinguishing hotspots,” he said.
The property belongs to a 70-year-old woman and two of the three flats were occupied by tenants. The house sustained 100 per cent structural damage, while the cost of damage is yet to be determined.
