Raj Mati, 65, of Raviravi, Ba is still coming to terms with the death of her daughter, Pushp Kiran, who died in an accident at the Nadi Bus stand on Thursday afternoon.

The 40-year-old, who worked as a processing staff at Farmboy in Navakai, Nadi, died instantly after a bus slammed into a seating area

Ms Kiran was waiting for her bus at the bus stand with her 18-year-old daughter when the alleged incident happened.

Police confirmed that the victim’s daughter is in a stable condition at the Lautoka hospital.

Ms Mati was distraught, when a team from the Fiji Sun visited their residence in Raviravi, Ba yesterday.

She described her daughter as an outgoing person who was always passionate and was full of life.

Ms Mati added, she is still coming to terms with the loss of her daughter

“Kiran was a very hard-working woman and enjoyed trying new things, it was her choice to leave us and look for work in Nadi so she could take care of me and her daughter,” she said.

The victim has been separated from her husband for the last four years.

“We were always in contact and she called every morning and in the evening. She called me that morning and said that she would come home; I was excited because it had been a month since I last saw her and my granddaughter.

“I was shocked when my brother came in the morning to tell me she had passed away. She was the only person taking care of our family, now we have no one to look after us,” said Ms Mati.

Ms Kiran also touched many hearts, including Ashleen Prasad, a part time manager of Farmboy, a family run business.

She said Kiran had moved to Nasau in Nadi recently with her daughter.

Ms Prasad last saw the two at around mid-day at her home before they parted ways.

“She was at home doing the clean-up, after that she borrowed some unripe bananas saying that she wanted to make sweets for Holi which I gave to her,” she said.

“That was the last conversation we had. The two had recently begun to work for us. They are from a poor family and they needed some work to get money for them so my dad agreed to give them work.”

The driver of the bus is still in Police custody with an investigation underway.

The victim is survived by her two daughters.
