Family of three loses all in fire

A family of three lost all their belonging in a fire at Lajonia, Labasa, yesterday.
Home owner, Sanjay Prasad could not hold back his tears when explaining how hard he had worked to build their $90,000-worth four bedroom room that was destroyed by the fire. Mr Prasad said they could not save anything and were staying at a relative’s place.
He claimed the fire started at about 9am when his 63-year-old mother, Nirmala Wati, was alone at home.

“My father and I went to work, my mother, who is sickly, was sleeping in the bedroom when the fire started,” Mr Prasad said.

Mr Prasad, 42, is a welder while his father is a security guard. National Fire Authority firefighters reached the site 15 minutes after the fire started.
Father, Jaswant Prasad, 63, said it would be hard to rebuild their home.
“We could not save anything,” he said.
“Our years of hard work have gone up in the flames, we now need a lot of help to build another home and life,” he said.
