Family Prays, Still Hopeful As Search Is Called Off

A mother of three is still hopeful that her missing husband will still turn up, despite the fact that the search for him has been called off.
Losana Dirilotu’s husband, Taito Saqacala, went missing while diving with others off the island reef along the Great Sea Reef (Cakaulevu) last Wednesday.
“I first heard the news when my brother told me in a phone call,” Ms Dirilotu said

“I didn’t believe it at first, but as the sun began to set, I realised that it was true, my husband was not returning home.
“Our oldest son was away at school in Druadrua Village and has just returned today. When he asked about his father, I told him that he had gone to sea,” the mother of three children said.
“He had gone out to dive to get some money for our groceries and fuel for the fibre boat to go to Wainikoro for preaching on Sunday.
“Tamai Peni (husband) was a preacher, never made excuses, was a kind-hearted person and had a lovely bass voice.
“Our family are still praying and hoping for his return.”
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the search team of eight Police officers and 15 villagers from Kavewa with five fibreglass boats recovered items belonging to the missing person and the search was called off because of fading daylight.
