Ana Tovata celebrated a milestone when she harvested her first batch of honey yesterday.

The member of Taveuni Women’s Empowerment Support Group (TWESG), with the support of Women’s Fund Fiji, Ms Tovata received a double-box beehive, essential beekeeping tools and a protective suit.

This will enable her to produce an impressive eight litres of honey in her initial harvest.

This achievement marks not only her financial empowerment, but also a breakthrough for women in the industry traditionally dominated by men.

“This initiative has provided financial support for my family and I am excited about future harvests,” Ms Tovata said.

“I hope to expand my hives and further contribute to my household’s well-being.”

Ms Tovata’s success story is part of a broader movement led by TWEGS, a grantee partner of Women’s Fund Fiji.

TWESG secretary Nanise Savoka said the initiative is not only fostering financial independence, but also strengthening the feminist movement by enabling women to break traditional economic barriers.
