The defence lawyer for Ilaisa Tanoa Degei filed a bail application at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday.

Degei, 24, was produced before Justice Sunil Sharma to answer to a charge of sexual assault and one of rape.

The Navosa farmer was alleged to have sexually assaulted and raped a Virgin Airline cabin crew member after transporting the victim and two of her colleagues after an outing at a nightclub in Martintar, Nadi.

He was represented by lawyers Etonia Veibataki, Severo Ravu and Timoci Varinava while Joeli Nasa and Brooke Navunicagi appeared for the prosecution.

The defence lawyer requested the court to provide them with the station diary for January 1, together with the running sheet of vehicle number GT334 as part of disclosures to advise the accused.

They will file a bail application later because they were awaiting details of sureties.

Degei was placed on remand and his case adjourned to February 10.
