All the way from Moala in Lau, Viliame Cakacaka travelled to Viti Levu to receive the grant assistance for his Davetalevu Youth Club.

“We have 17 young boys in the club. Our members have been contributing to community development and participating in village activities,” he said.

“Living in the island is not easy because we have limited access to so many things.

“The assistance we received will assist us with our farming projects.

“The club members are very grateful to the Government for its support.

“I believe this will help us a lot and we will make sure to make good use of it to help the club grow.”

The club started five years ago.

Mr Cakacaka said the next move by club members was to make use of coconuts on the island.

“Discussions are underway for the club to move on to the virgin coconut oil business,” he said.

Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou handed over the farming tools.

He met with some of the youths on his tour to the Southern Lau last year and he was told of their club activities and requests were made to him.

“All of you deserve these grant assistance,” he said.
