Fate of man who raped minor relative in 2018 yet to be decided

It as taken the High Court in Lautoka six years to find a man guilty for raping a relative who was a minor in 2018.

Justice Aruna Aluthge passed his judgment last week after the man was found guilty for the offence he committed six years ago on a beach.

The man appeared before Justice Aluthge on October 21 with one count each of rape and assault with intent to commit rape in 2018.

The man initially pleaded not guilty, but after the trial, the court found the State prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he committed the offence.

The victim is now 19 years old.

The court heard that the incident happened six years ago when the victim visited her uncle’s home on September 10, 2018. The court will pass his sentence at a later date.
