It is a best feeling for a father to feel proud with the accomplishments cherished by his children.

This is how Sachendra Prasad feels when he describes the success of his sons, Shavin Prasad and Shavesh Prasad.

His elder son, Shavin is a Dentish and Shavesh is an Aircraft Engineer.

Mr Prasad, 55, of Malamala, Nadi, said he has struggled and sacrificed a lot to raise his children.

“Being a father is challenging. You have a lot of responsibilities and you have to make a lot of sacrifices so that you can dedicate it to your family,” he said.

He said his journey as a father had been quite a rollercoaster ride, where at times it was tough to afford the needs and demands of the family.

“I still remember when we were renting in Suva and trying to balance the expenses to provide for my children’s education, food and their wants,” Mr Prasad said.

“They were quite stubborn on what they wanted and particular about the toys, clothes, and food.

“I was an electrician back then. Now I am employed in SPCC in Nadi specialising in repair, maintanance of coffee machines and training staffs in various hotels in production of various coffee beverages and operating machines effectively.”

He said facing these challenges was worth it as his sons appreciated the sacrifices he made for their future.

“Some of the challenges I faced whilst being a father were financial constraints, providing for education of my children while balancing the smooth running of other expenses at home,” he said.

“However, with the love and support from my family, I was able to overcome the hardships by opting ways to cut down unncessary expenses, personal life, social gatherings and investing in my family.”

He said he was a proud father today seeing both his children educated, earning and living a quality life.

“This year, we will be spending father’s day by going for a picnic with some drinks and good bbq,” he said.

He said he had been away from his son, Shavin Prasad for almost 8 years while he was studying in Suva.

“It has been difficult not having them around and only seeing them once or twice a month,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shavin Prasad said his father was his role model and he had seen him struggle and tackle the challenges with his own effort.

“My father always finds ways to provide for the family. Even though he has problems, he still smiles the pain away having us unaware,” he said.

Shavin said he was the Private Dental Practitioner and had recently opened his own Dental Surgery in Namaka, Nadi.

“I have reached this far because of my hard working father. My father is a definition of true hero and I am so fortunate that I have a father like him,” he said.

“Family’s support and motivation contributes significantly to your progress in life and with every decision you take. It is essential to have someone with experience and knowledge to guide you for increasing your success and minimising difficulties.

“For me, it is my dad and I am truely blessed to have him in my life.”
