Drawing inspiration from his hard-working father, Savikesh Vimal Singh, has proven that determination and hard work are keys to success. He was named top student of Drasa College in Lautoka.

Despite growing up facing hardships, the Year 13 student had put aside all things and focused on maintaining good marks in school to make his parents proud.

He was inspired by his father, Bimlesh Singh, an electrician by profession and the sole breadwinner of their family of four.

The 17-year-old said seeing his father work hard for the family despite hard times after COVID-19 pandemic hit our shores, he was fearless in everything he did. With that inspiration, he was determined to score excellent marks in school, and he did.

Savikesh was the highest achiever for his school in last year’s Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination attaining 367 out of 400.

He scored 90 in English, 97 in Technical Drawing, 91 in Applied Technology and 89 in Mathematics.

“I did not have specific plans for my studies last year, but I only aimed to score good marks,” he said.

“My parents were always supportive towards my education. My dad works very hard even though he is sickly. He tries his best to support our family. While he is not able to make it to work every day, he tries his best and he motivates me to be like him – that is to work hard.”

Savikesh has plans to secure a scholarship in engineering next year.
