Faulty Bus Claims ‘Not Very Common’

Fiji Bus Operators Asso­ciation president Parmod Chand says bus breakdowns are not very common in Fiji.

His comment comes after the Fiji Sun ran a story of two tourists, travelling a week a part who both experienced bus breakdowns.

Mr Chand said those incidents were blown out of proportion.

“I believe it’s not a big deal,” he said.

“Everything breaks down some­times. Taxis break down, air­planes break down and buses break down.”

The real issue, said Mr Chand, was the lack of government action to help improve the issues bus op­erators faced such as potholes and illegal bus operations.

“The vehicles go through a lot of wear and tear so it shouldn’t be a surprise if a bus breaks down once in a while,” said Mr Parmod.

“We have great fares and we do it very right.

“The bus operators in Fiji are do­ing a great job,” he said, adding that bus breakdowns should not be very common.

He added that the company in question in the Fiji Sun article, had one of the best fleets in the en­tire country.
