Six years of hard work, sacrifice and determination has paid dividends for Vafoou Fesaitu who graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree with Honours First Class.

His achievement was even more special because he was teaching while he pursued his studies.

So it was more than just receiving a piece of certificate for the Rotuman native at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, on Thursday.

Mr Fesaitu’s works at the Fiji National University (FNU), where he teaches mechanical engineering. Balancing work and study was one of the biggest challenges he faced.

“It was not easy,” he said.

“Sometimes I had to manage heavy workloads from teaching and assignments.”

He started teaching Certificate IV in Fitting and Machining and this year, he has taken on an even bigger role by teaching Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Despite these challenges, Mr Fesaitu never gave up.

It took him six years to complete his degree, but to him, every year was worthwhile.

“This is a milestone for me and my family,” he said.

His story is a strong example of determination and patience.

While many students struggled with classes, Mr Fesaitu was teaching others and at the same time also trying to complete his own studies.

His journey shows that with focus and hard work, even the hardest goals can be reached.

Now, with his degree in hand and more experience under his belt, Mr Fesaitu looks forward to continuing to share his knowledge and inspire his students.
