FICA Stage Set for National Budget

An upcoming gathering of accountants is expected to frame short to long term decisions in the lead up to the National Budget.

Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants congress will be home to discussions on the ideal direction the economy should take in the face of emerging trends, technological advancements, diversification, and alternatives to sectors such as tourism and regulatory changes shaping the future of the economy.

The institute will convene its two-day congress on April 26-27 at Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Coral Coast.

Institute president Rajeshwar Singh said the congress aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among industry professionals.

“By exploring innovative strategies and best practices, delegates can enhance their skills and adapt to the evolving demands of the business environment and the Government’s role in setting up the stage since the National Budget announcement will be made in next two months,” he said.

“Ultimately, the goal is to empower members and non-members with the tools and insights needed to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in their respective roles.”

The 2024 Annual Congress aimed to delve into pertinent issues facing the business landscape and the economy, Mr Singh said.

Renowned speakers will share their expertise, to provide valuable insights for professionals to keep informed of the recent and future developments, he said.

Like any professional body, FICA encounters challenges with changing regulatory landscape, relevance amidst technological advancements and the evolving needs of members.

“Proactive measures such as continuous education, strategic partnerships, and leveraging technology enables us to overcome these challenges effectively,” Mr Singh said.

“By staying agile and responsive, FICA ensures that it remains a valuable resource for members and the broader community.”

FICA to further MSME development 

The institute aimed to empower SMEs (small medium enterprises) to thrive in the tourism industry.

“FICA recognises the vital role of SMEs in the Fiji economy and is committed to supporting their growth and sustainability,” Mr Singh said.

The institute will carry out advocacy, capacity building initiatives and fostering a conducive business environment, for SMEs.

“By providing tailored support and advocating for policies that promote SME development, FICA contributes annually with the National Budget submission to Ministry of Finance,” Mr Singh said.
