Ranjani Singh, the youngest child and only daughter of Nain Singh, will miss the love and care she received from her father.

Mr Singh, 54, is Fiji’s latest road fatality after he was hit by a vehicle on January 30 along the Kings Road near Lovu, Lautoka.

Ms Singh said she was at home on her mobile phone talking to her eldest brother, Ashneel Singh in Australia, when she received another call from her husband, Rohan Kumar.

Her husband told her that Mr Singh was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Lautoka Hospital.

“I told him not to joke about such things and he told me dad was in a serious condition in hospital,” she said.

She said when she learned about the incident, she immediately left for the Lautoka Hospital with her mother, Pushpa Wati.

“When we arrived at the hospital around 3pm, dad was still unconscious I could only pray that he would survive,” she said.

“It was almost 7pm and then the doctors told us that dad had passed away.”

The 25-year-old said she would miss her father, who was a kind hearted and very quiet person.

Mr Singh was survived by his wife and three children.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the victim was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a woman in her 20s.

Ms Naisoro said the victim was then rushed to the Lautoka Hospital and was admitted in the ICU where he later died.

She said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death as investigations continue.

The road death toll now stands at five compared with one for the same period last year.
