As of 11.45am today, a total of 164,954 voters were reported to have voted in 1145 polling stations around the country.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said this amounts to 27.24% of the number of registered voters expected to vote today.

He said the turnout was not looking very promising at the time.

“This is where I am imploring everyone to come out and vote. The weather is good. The polling venues are ready. The line is gone. All you have to do now is show up and vote,” he said

“From the reports we are getting from around the country, the weather is still holding strong. It is bright and sunny in most parts of the country. What we can also report to you now is that the queues and polling stations have now dwindled down,” he said during his 12pm update today.

“As the day progresses, we anticipate that there will be more people turning up to cast their vote.”

He said though the buzz in activities this morning, the turnout was still lower than what was expected and he hopes it would get better as the day goes by.

Mr Saneem reiterated the call for voters with the old green voter card to text their EVR  numbers to 1500 to be able to get their polling venues.
