Fiji’s roving ambassador to the Pacific Island States, Ratu Seremaia Tuinausori Cavuilati, has ushered in a new era of bilateral cooperation between Fiji and Samoa.

Ratu Seremaia presented his credentials to the Samoan Head of State Tuimaleali’ifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II on Tuesday.

He said it signified the commitment by both countries to work together on common issues.

Ratu Seremaia said Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama was looking forward to joining Samoa’s Prime Minister this year during the Pacific Islands Leaders’ Forum in Tuvalu this September.

“This is a first time so I think we are all excited about it.

It flows on from this overall desire between our leaders to come closer to one another at the political level so they can stand together when it comes to regional issues and international issues,” Ratu Seremaia said.

He said that Fijian leaders were working hard to foster closer ties in the region and share expertise in areas including tourism, health, sport, education and trade.

While accepting Ratu Seremaia’s credentials the Samoan Head of State acknowledged Fiji’s contribution to the collective efforts of the region through the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum.

“I acknowledge the contribution of Fiji in the international arena on addressing pressing issues of climate change,” he said.

“I am confident that the diplomatic relations between Samoa and Fiji will continue to grow and that His Excellency, Ambassador will excel in deepening our co-operation between the islands and our partnerships in the region.”
