Nadi was a buzz with excitement over the weekend as thousands of Fijians and visitors from aboard converged at the King Charles Park for the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming concert on Saturday and Sunday night.

Hotels and accommodation in the greater Nadi area recorded full capacity and business owners describing the weekend as one of the busiest in the town’s history.

The concert included local and international artists such as J boog, Josh Tatofi, Maoli and George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso.

Nadi Town Council chairperson and special administrator Saliceni Raiwalui said it was one the biggest events that the town had hosted.

Mr Raiwalui said he was grateful Nadi was chosen to host an event of such magnitude.

“I am 75 years old now and I have never seen a crowd such as this homecoming concert which took place last night (Saturday),” Mr Raiwalui said.

“We were in awe of witnessing all that had taken place at Prince Charles Park. Businesses were happy, taxi drivers were happy, hotel and resorts were full and it was just so good to see this happening in this long weekend.

“We at Nadi Town Council are grateful that this kind of event contributed to growth of businesses in the town area.”

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill said September is usually a busy month and the homecoming concert just added to a great period for tourism for Fiji.

“The event certainly did generate flights and hotel bookings and it’s awesome to see,” Mr Hill said.

“We’d love to keep working with music promoters to bring music events to Fiji that can really attract tourists. A fantastic show and great for Fiji. Definitely alongside the likes of sports and adventure, music tourism is proven around the world to be a really good driver of tourism.”

Vude Queen Laisa Vulakoro, who was also spotted among other local artists enjoying themselves at the concert, said she had the time of her life.

“Everything was just amazing,” she said.

“They had my dream stage and dream sound. All was just amazing.”

Cabinet Ministers who were also at the event included Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Minister for Health Dr Atonio Lalabalavu.
