Fiji Link Requests Disclosures from DPP

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will need to make their disclosures today at 4pm at the Nadi Magistrate Court.

This is in the case of former Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Aviation, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, former executive general of Corporate Affairs of Fiji Airways Shaenaz Voss, and Fiji Airways general manager Safety, Security and Quality, Sharun Ali were heard before Magistrate Semi Babitu in Nadi yesterday.

The three accused are facing charges relating to the unlawful carriage of firearms on a Fiji Link aircraft.

They face 66 counts of various charges.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is charged with 11 counts of unlawful carriage of firearm on aircraft, 11 counts of receiving a corrupt benefit, 11 counts of breach of trust by a person employed in the public service and 11 counts of abuse of office.

Ms Voss is charged with three counts of giving a corrupt benefit, and Sharun Ali is charged with 11 counts of giving a corrupt benefit.

Additionally, Ms Voss, Sharun Ali and Fiji Airline T/A Fiji Link are charged with five counts of breach of mandatory reporting of security occurrences and three counts of breach of airline security.

The accused persons are charged under the Civil Aviation (Security) Act 1994, Civil Aviation (Security) Regulations 1994 and Crimes Act 2009.

Defence lawyer Wasu Pillay requested the DPP to give the disclosures today.

There are also disclosures requested by Fiji Link, and they will facilitate that before May 16.

The accused persons will take their plea on May 16.
