The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Naval Division launched a 10-year strategic plan aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime security capabilities as it prepares for growing challenges across Fiji’s vast ocean territory.

The strategic roadmap was unveiled during a ceremonial parade marking the Republic of Fiji Navy’s 51st anniversary and the close of the 2025–2026 financial year.

More than 200 naval personnel took part in the parade, which was officiated by RFMF Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff Brigadier General Motufaga.

Brigadier General Motufaga praised the Navy’s contribution over the past year, acknowledging its work in maritime surveillance, search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, hydrographic support and whole-of-government operations.

“The strategic plan will guide the Navy’s development and work over the next 10 years,” the RFMF said in a statement.

Brigadier General Motufaga thanked officers and sailors for their dedication and challenged them to maintain high standards of professionalism, readiness and operational performance.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding service within the force.

Lieutenant Commander Wetealagi received a commendation for his leadership, professionalism and service while commanding patrol boats during operational deployments.

The crew of RFNS Savenaca was also honoured for its recent search and rescue mission in the Vatulele area, where its prompt response helped save lives.

The Fiji Navy said the anniversary was an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to protecting Fiji’s maritime domain while positioning the service to meet future security demands under its new long-term strategy.

“The Fiji Navy remains committed to serving Fiji with professionalism, integrity and pride,” the statement said.
