Fiji Pine Limited (FPL) has strengthened its commitment to research, innovation and sustainable forestry with the opening of a new research centre and administration building at its Lololo Station in Lautoka.

The facilities were officially opened yesterday and are expected to support science-based decision-making and strengthen the long-term development of Fiji’s forestry sector.

FPL executive chairman Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure said the research centre would help guide the future of the industry.

“To know where we are going in the future, we must understand forestry to the deepest sense of the word. Our science must be correct, and our practice must follow scientific facts and findings,” he said.

The administration building will serve as the operational hub for the station and will also double as an emergency shelter during natural disasters.

The adjoining research centre will support scientific studies aimed at improving plantation management, forest health and the long-term sustainability of Fiji’s pine industry.

Mr Vakalalabure said Fiji Pine was pursuing growth through strategic planning and innovation.

“Fiji Pine Limited is on a journey toward growth and excellence. We want to fulfil the dreams that have been left in this station and in the forestry sector,” he said.

He said the company remained committed to ensuring its investments delivered tangible benefits for landowners, communities and the nation’s forestry industry.

“We work for the benefit of those who have invested these important resources for the development of our nation,” he said.

Mr Vakalalabure acknowledged the challenges facing the sector but said the new facilities reflected Fiji Pine’s long-term commitment to strengthening the industry through research, innovation and sustainable forest management.
