A mandatory drug testing policy could soon be introduced across the entire Fiji Police Force.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, revealed yesterday he has directed the Force's legal and policy division to review current drug testing protocols.

The review will consider moving from random drug tests to compulsory testing for all police officers and civilian staff within the organisation.

Mr Chew said the new testing protocol would begin with personnel at the Commissioner's office, including himself.

"I have prioritised this issue and expect a report to be submitted to my office as soon as possible," he confirmed.

On Monday, Mr Chew expressed his disappointment over reports of officers engaging in illegal drug activities.

In a recent case under investigation, a police officer in Labasa was caught buying drugs at the market while in uniform last Thursday.

He assured the public that corrupt practices would not be tolerated, and any report lodged through official channels would be fully investigated.

Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, acknowledged the need for reform within the police force, stating:

"I have never shied away from the fact that the police force needs to reset and become professional.

"But I do know there are also many very good officers serving the public."
