The Fiji Roads Authority has responded to an article that was published on February 23, 2019, in regards to the plea by bus operators in the Northern Division.

In FRA’s response, Communications and Public Relations officer Sainiala Rokovucago explained that the total road length, current works in progress, forward works programme and other factors that also contributed to the unfavourable conditions.

Due to the roads significant length, pavement improvement works (including drainage) will be done in sections according to priorities with the works to be completed by the third week of March 2019.

Pavement repairs and drainage improvements are currently in progress after which the gravelling in between repaired sections will begin soon.

Meanwhile, work is in progress at a section whereby a bus was immobile recently and has been repaired and currently accessible to all vehicles while drainage works and overhung branches removals has also commenced.

In April 2019 Fiji Roads Authority will begin on replacing of damaged and broken road cross culverts, repair sections and gravel sections as part of their ongoing periodic maintenance of drains and verges.

Buses should now have no difficulty in ascending the hill as the rehabilitation of the hill section in Navakasobu/Naduri Health Centre–Korovou Road is 100 metres in length and has been attended to. A further overlay layer of gravel will be done from the hill toe to the crest to provide more stability.

Fiji Roads Authority will continue to improve the drain and verge maintenance in these areas and can be contacted for further clarification.
