Permanent Secretary for Commerce Shaheen Ali says Fiji has stood strong and tall, among other bigger nations under the leadership of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Speaking after the commissioning of the new standardised roadside stall for Nananu Village on Thursday, Mr Ali said the PM had shown support and care for every Fijians.

He said initiatives, such as the roadside stalls, are part of Mr Bainimarama’s efforts in building a stronger Fiji where every Fijian grows and benefits.

“Support for small and micro businesses, community-led businesses and co-operatives have been an important goal of the Fijian Government,” he said.

“Mr Bainimarama and his Government introduced a number of groundbreaking initiatives. We have the micro, small business grant and the national export strategy.

“Also, we have the northern development programme, trade enhancement programme and the coronavirus concessional loans.

“These initiatives are powered by strong partnerships such as with the Fiji Development Bank and co-operatives. Roadside stalls are one of those initiatives.”

He said through these programmes, the ministry had invested over $100 million towards the micro, small and medium enterprises.
