Fiji Sun journalist, Lusiana Tuimaisala, has become the first from Fiji to undergo intensive training in the China Asia and Pacific Press Centre Journalist Training Programme.
The programme previously featured journalists from Asia. It has been extended to the Pacific Islands for the first time.
Ms Tuimaisala was accepted into the programme through the strong support of the Chinese Embassy in Suva.

Ms Tuimaisala is currently developing Mandarin language skills at the Beijing International Chinese College along with Asian and African journalists who have also arrived in China for training programmes.
Ms Tuimaisala's 10-month programme includes:
Training courses: With lectures in areas such as news journalism, international communication, media development, China's diplomatic policies, China's economy and culture.
Internships: Hands-on experience at China's major news media outlets such as the People's Daily, China’s biggest newspaper group; Xinhua news agency; and CCTV
Covering major activities: Journalists from last year’s programme witnessed and reported on international events such as the Belt and Road Forum on International Co-operation and the BRIC Xiamen Summit.
Seminars: Including with the International Department Central Committee of CPC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Renmin University and other think tanks.
Visits: to representative enterprises and projects in the fields of industry and agriculture, energy, finance, science and technology, and culture in Beijing and other provinces and cities of China.
The Fiji Sun already has strong connections with Chinese news media.
This includes a news exchange agreement with Xinhua, China’s global news agency and the only international news service with a news bureau based in Fiji. Plus, rights to reports and photos from the English-language China Daily newspaper and news portal.
