Pacific Centre for Border Management and Security Facility is uniquely positioned to address challenges by offering training programmes that will enhance the capacity of border and security agencies to respond effectively and efficiently.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka said this yesterday during the opening of the new facility at Fiji National University at Namaka Campus, Nadi yesterday evening.
FNU celebrated the culmination of a strategic collaboration between the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES) of Canberra, Australia, and the Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO).

Mr Gavoka said the centre was a milestone, not only for Fiji but for the Pacific.
“It represents a bold step forward in strengthening border management and security, which are critical to ensuring national stability, facilitating trade, and protecting our borders.
“As a regional hub, this centre will equip border management agencies and discipline forces with the specialised knowledge and skills necessary to address the complex and evolving challenges of our modern world.
He said the Fiji-Australia Vuvale Partnership showed how two nations could work together for regional stability and prosperity.
“We must recognize the growing threats that Fiji and the broader Pacific region face in border management.
“Transnational crime, human trafficking, irregular migration, and the movement of illicit goods are just some of the issues that demand our attention.
“For Fiji, while our Pacific hub status has long benefitted us – it has also meant we are the transit point for crime. The centre will equip individuals working in border management, customs, and national security with the expertise and skills needed to combat evolving threats.”
