Suva and its sister town, Nausori will celebrate 50 years of Fijian independence in style.
Suva will be hosting the national celebration at Albert Park on October 10. As that happens, a food and music festival will take place at the Thurston Gardens.
Suva and Lami special administrator Isikeli Tikoduadua said the council had met with the Suva Retailers Association for discussions on a week of Grand Suva Sale.

“Retailers have been approached to decorate their shops in recognition of FIJI50 and building owners within the downtown have been encouraged to beautify their buildings,” he said.
“The city council will also be rewarding the best decorated shops and there are other things which are being planned. We would announce this shortly.”
He said the Suva City Council would also be undertaking a beautification project.
In Nausori, the plan is to paint the town blue.
Nausori special administrator Uma Kant Patel said businesses were urged to decorate their windows with the FIJI50 logo.
“Wear blue. Fly a Fiji flag. Use blue and white balloons. We will also have Nausori and Nakasi on sale from October 1 to October 10,” Mr Patel said.
“Nausori and Nasinu Town Councils will also give prizes to the best decorated shops.”
