Fijian envoy presents credentials in Brunei

The bilateral partnership between Fiji and Brunei Darussalam will be enhanced in areas of mutual development interest, after the presentation of credentials by Fiji’s Non-Resident High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Fiji to Japan Isikeli Mataitoga presented his Letters of Credence as High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Iman Palace amidst a grand ceremony last Tuesday.

Mr Mataitoga was received by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, following the presentation of credentials.

His Majesty congratulated Mr Mataitoga on his appointment as the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Fiji accredited to Brunei Darussalam and assured him of the support from the Government of Brunei Darussalam.

His Majesty also expressed to the High Commissioner his wish to visit Fiji.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs along with senior officials of the royal court, among others, were also present.

Mr Mataitoga also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof.

Both parties expressed interests to develop their diplomatic engagements on the principles of mutual friendship and collaboration.

There are opportunities for Fiji in a number of co-operation areas, especially in the socioeconomic development and trade.

Brunei Darussalam is well known for its energy rich and oil resource developments.
