The Pacific makes up half of the Earth’s Ocean and is home to hundreds of marine species. It also provides 70 percent of the global fish catch.

Pacific Islanders have over the years elevated the fight against the protection of the ocean space as it is their identity and culture, source of food, livelihoods and national economies.

There are continuous threats to the health of oceans and small island nations in the Pacific are already among the most negatively affected by climate change.
