The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has announced the appointment of Colonel Daunivakasala Kalitabua Ravunakana as the new Military and Police Advisor to Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
Colonel Ravunakana, who joined the RFMF in 1992, brings over 30 years of distinguished service marked by professionalism, dedication, and integrity.
His extensive military career includes key roles in both domestic operations and international peacekeeping missions under the United Nations in Lebanon, Iraq, Timor-Leste, the Golan Heights, and the Sinai Peninsula.

A graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon in Australia and the National Defence University of the People’s Liberation Army in China, Colonel Ravunakana also holds advanced qualifications in Strategic and Security Studies, as well as Emergency and Disaster Management.

In a related development, Captain Merelesita Cakau has been promoted to the rank of Major and will serve as a Military Observer with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).
Her promotion highlights the RFMF’s growing presence in global peacekeeping efforts and highlights the increasing representation of Fijian women in international military roles.
RFMF Commander, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, congratulated both officers, commending their exemplary service and reaffirming the RFMF’s commitment to supporting international peace and security.
