Fijians urged to wear poppy with respect and pride
Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua launches 2025 National Poppy Appeal, calling for national unity in honouring veterans and fallen heroes.

All Fijians have been reminded to participate in the 2025 National Poppy Appeal by wearing the poppy with respect and pride.
During the official launch in Suva today, Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs Pio Tikoduadua shared the importance of remembering those who served.
"I encourage every Fijian to take part in this appeal, to wear the Poppy with respect and pride and to contribute generously," he said.

"This is how we ensure that the history of service is remembered, those sacrifices are not overlooked, and veterans continue to receive the support that they deserve."
The annual campaign raises funds to support Fiji's veterans, ex-servicemen and women, and their families. Contributors receive a red poppy pin to wear, symbolising respect for those who served.
Fiji's long history of military service starts from World War II battles in the Solomon Islands and Middle East, to peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, Sinai, Iraq and other locations.
"Many did not return. Those who did return carried the memory of war into their families and their communities," Mr Tikoduadua said.
Funds raised provide practical assistance including healthcare, welfare support, and programmes that maintain the dignity and well-being of ex-servicemen and women and their families.
Among those present was Reverend Inia Mavai, a retired private of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces who served two tours in Lebanon.
"Very emotional as I tend to think about my comrades who died in Lebanon," said Rev Mavai, who was injured in a gas cylinder explosion in 1981 that left him with serious injuries.
The church minister from Sawani Village in Naitasiri pleaded with Government to ensure proper care for veterans.
The Poppy Appeal runs until Remembrance Day on November 11.
