Fiji Rice Limited has signed the renewal of farmers’ bundle micro insurance the policy with FijiCare Insurance in Dreketi, Macuata, on Thursday.

Ashrit Pratap, company general manager, said this would benefit 150 rice farmers in Vanua Levu

“From this year we will be the farmers’ agent whereby they have to pay us a premium of $52 for a year,” Mr Pratap said.

“A farmer will get $3000 for life term, $1000 funeral expenses, $3000 personal accident benefit and $3000 for house destroyed in fire.

“Last year Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme assisted us to pay for farmers’ premium.

“However, from this year we will act as an agent for farmers.”

He said the FijiCare Insurance project manager, Sunita Reddy, explained the policy in detail to the farmers at the Fiji Rice Limited training centre.

“The first beneficiary and the only one so far was Nirmala Wati whose husband, Bas Deo, died from a short illness,” he said.

“We care about our employees and farmers and hence, we are continuing to work together with FijiCare Insurance.

“If a farmer wishes to withdraw this policy they have been told already they can do so.”
