Minister for Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu is expected to meet his Tuvaluan counterpart to discuss the deportation of two Fijian men serving life sentences for the murder of a local fisherman.

The issue was brought up by the University of the South Pacific Director, Rosiana Lagi, during a talanoa session for the Fijian community with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Funafuti, Tuvalu, on Monday night.

The two who had been drinking were accused of pushing the man overboard a boat and he died on the way to the hospital.

“Because Tuvalu does not have a provision for manslaughter, they were convicted for murder.

“They have already served nine years,” Ms Lagi said.
