The spotlight was on Fiji on Wednesday night as the Stage of Nations at the Dubai expo, set aside the day as Fiji’s National Day.

The programme was led by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Tolerance and Co-Existence and Commissioner General of Expo Dubai of the United Arab Emirates.

Fiji’s National Day began at the iconic Al Wasl Dome, where Mr Bainimarama shared Fiji’s journey with the world.

“It is fitting –– almost, poetic –– for humanity to have faced one of its greatest tests before joining hands for one of its grandest celebrations of cooperation across borders, oceans and hemispheres. The pandemic has driven home the ethos of this Expo –– that nations are stronger together,” he said.

He added that humanity was at its best when we shared the best of who we were with each other. He said it had taken longer than they expected to meet here.

“But we are here because we have earned this opportunity to connect minds and create the future; the future we want and the future that our children deserve.”

Guests to Fiji’s National Day experienced the true culture and authenticity with a traditional performance by the Dolce Group.

Following the official programme, the PM and Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan toured the United Arab Emirates Pavilion and the Leadership Pavilion for a gift change and signing of the Book of Honour.
