Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has announced a $1 million package to give back to Fiji’s Olympic medalists.
Fiji won gold in the Rugby men’s competition and bronze in the women’s 7s competition.
“They represent the heart and strength and high aspirations of an entire nation. And our champions deserve everything we can afford to offer.

“Today I’m announcing a $1million dollar package to give back to our Olympic heroes who have given us so much and to reward them for all their sacrifice and hard work.”

For the two time Olympic Games gold medalist, 7s captain Jerry Tuwai, Mr Bainimarama said a land has been bought as a token of appreciation.
“We will be buying Jerry a piece of land and helping him fund the construction of a home. We’ve purchased a residential lot valued at $141,700 in the much sought after Tacirua East subdivision and we will contribute $33, 300 in costs towards the construction of a home – whenever Jerry decides to build one. It’s the least we can do.”
Members of the Fijiana team will receive $11,000 each.
Members of the men’s team will get $33, 300 each.
