Fire Officers Brighten Day For Family Who Lost Their Belongings To Blaze

National Fire Authority officers reached out to Unaisi Laivou (black top) and her family with assistance on September 4, 2020.
A family who lost all their belongings in a house fire were surprised to get a visit from fire officers bringing them groceries at Valebasoga, Labasa early yesterday morning.
Unaisi Laivou, said she was in tears when she saw the same officers from the National Fire Authority in Labasa who tried to save her house on Monday.
“My parents, husband, two children and I are seeking shelter at my uncle’s place which is a few metres away from my house,” Ms Laivou said.

“It has been very difficult for us as an extended family to survive after our four-bedroom house was completely destroyed.”
She said the assistance given to them was a blessing.
Meanwhile, National Fire Authority chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said the officers contributed money among themselves and went out of their way to assist the family.
“I am very happy with the work carried out by our officers showing more concern and compassion to the people they serve in their community,” Mr Moceitai said.
“As we approach the long weekend it is my humble advice to the people in Fiji to stay safe and be alert at all times.”
