Firefighters Save Fire from Spreading

National Fire Authority Chief Executive officer Sowane Puamau confirmed the incident as Nadi station received a call at 7.12am from a Ashil Prasad.

Quick response by firefighters prevented fire spreading to other homes in Korovuto, Nadi.

The structural fire incident happened on Wednesday morning.

The four-bedroom house belonged to Shailend Sashi. The property is made of concrete structure and a corrugated iron roofing.

The house was occupied by Mr Sashi, his wife, and a child but no injuries were confirmed.

Damages

“The estimated damage to the structure of the building is approximately 80 per cent, a car was saved,” Mr Sashi said.

“The estimated damage costs is $80,000. The property is not insured.”

National Fire Authority Chief Executive officer Sowane Puamau confirmed the incident as Nadi station received a call at 7.12am from a Ashil Prasad.

“The brigade immediately responded with two trucks with eight on duty officers and two off duty officers,” Mr Puamau said.

Upon arrival at 7.20am, the brigade noticed a concrete four-bedroom house on fire.

“The brigade immediately established one delivery to stop the fire from spreading towards the adjacent house and managed to control the fire.”

Mr Puamau said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of fire.
