First Fisheries Officer Deployed On Cicia

The Cicia Fisheries Station opened in Natokalau Village, Lau, on Tuesday.
Fisheries officer, Sailosi Drili said he was honoured to be the first officer to be stationed there.
“This is the first time I am getting transferred to an island and my family and I are excited,” he said.

“I have travelled around Fiji through the Fish Aggregation Device (FAD),programme,” Mr Drili said.
“I have been with the Ministry of Fisheries for 19 years now and this is my first transfer to an island.
“I am ready for the challenges. I will find ways to ensure that these challenges do not affect the work that we do here.
“I have visited this island a lot of times. I believe that with the new station, the villagers will be able to let us know about the issues they face daily.”
The station also has an ice plant that will allow villagers to store their catch giving more flexibility to them when it comes to fishing.
