Fisherman’s Daughter Excel, Make Parents Proud
The William Cross College student scored 100 in Maths, 92 in Physics, 91 in Chemistry, 81 in Biology and 73 in English.

Miliana Gavidi left her village to study in Suva, and she promised herself that she would make her parents proud, which she did.
She did so by scoring 358/400 in her Year 12 Certificate Examination.
The William Cross College student scored 100 in Maths, 92 in Physics, 91 in Chemistry, 81 in Biology and 73 in English.

“Leaving my village to come to Suva in search of a better education opportunity was hard at first, but I knew I had to because I wanted to give my parents a better life that they deserve,” Miliana said.
“I want to thank my parents for their support even with the little that we have. I am a proud daughter of a fisherman and making my parents proud has always been my goal.”
Studying during the pandemic was tough especially when home schooling became the new norm.
“But that did not demotivate me. I had a goal and fulfilling it was always a priority,” Miliana said.
“I am happy with my mark, but I will make sure to work harder when school starts as I plan to be in Year 13. I want to become a doctor and I know I will need to continue to get good marks.
“I was staying with my uncle’s family in Suva, and I want to thank them for their support since joining William Cross College in Year Nine.”
Her father, Jona Mara Gavidi said his daughter was hardworking.
“I am proud of my daughter’s achievement, and I know that she will go a long way. I have encouraged my daughter to continue to work hard so that she can get a toppers scholarship,” Mr Gavidi said.
“Getting a toppers scholarship will mean that my daughter will not have to worry about anything else but studying hard. My daughter is someone who puts others first before herself and I am proud to call her my daughter.”
Her favourite subject is Maths.
