Delegates of the Serua Provincial Council meeting at Namaqumaqua village were informed that there were five confirmed cases of dengue fever in the Navua peri-urban area.
The announcement was made by the Senior Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Beqa, Namosi and Serua, Doctor (Dr) Anaseini Maisema.
Speaking to the Fiji Sun, Dr Maisema said Aedes Aegypti was the species of mosquito which was responsible for spreading dengue.

“Only female mosquitoes can spread dengue,” she said.
She said they were treating the five cases.
Dr Maisema said dengue fever caused a high fever.
“The symptoms are a headache, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, muscle, bone and joint pain and rash.’
She has advised that if anyone is feeling one of these symptoms, to report to the nearest medical centre.
Dr Maisema said all mosquito breeding places should be destroyed.
She said there were no reported dengue fever cases in Beqa, Serua and Namosi.
