The Legal Aid Commission will be opening five more branches this year, says Shahin Ali.
The acting director of the commission said: “We are now targeting the opening branches in the interior of Fiji such as Keyasi, Vunidawa and islands such as Kadavu and Rotuma.
“We would like to acknowledge the support from the Fijian Government, European Union and the United Nation Development Programme.

“The Legal Aid has become the largest law firm in Fiji, with over 209 staffing establishments and 16 branches throughout Fiji.
“Opening of five branches will make a total of 21 branches,” he said.
Mr Ali said those living in the interior and maritime areas will now have access to the services provided by the commission.
“By bringing our services to the very door steps of some clients is what sets us apart from others. We have known that we have made an impact on such clients by not delaying service delivery,’’ Mr Ali said.
“Since its establishment, it has advocated without fear or favour and continues to grow from strength to strength in promoting greater access to justice for all Fijians.
“Fiji Legal Aid Commission is at forefront of state-funded legal aid providers globally. We are also one of the best funded legal aid institutions in the world even if you compare us with some of the most developed countries.
“It is about expediting the process and it is imperative that where possible, we do not delay justice for our clients.”
