Five people, including a 50-year-old businessman, were arrested by police in relation to drugs over the past two days in the Northern Division.

This was confirmed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP), Livai Driu, yesterday.

He said on Friday, December 27, at Naweni Village in Savusavu, Police found branches of leaves believed to be marijuana, hanging by the walls inside a house.

The male suspect was arrested and dried leaves exhibited and now awaiting analysis.

“On Saturday, four people were arrested from various places in Labasa,” ACP Driu said.

In Tuatua, a 50-year-old businessman was found in possession of two sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil.

From the same area, a 20-year-old male student of Batinivuruwai, Bua, was found with one sachet of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, also wrapped in aluminum foil.

Then at Naduna Settlement, a 55-year-old farmer and 35-year-old woman were found with one sealed clear plastic, one sachet and one jar containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

“All dried leaves were seized immediately and sent for analysis waiting for results,” he said.

“Police officers will continue with the drug raid and special operations during this festive season.”
