Five schools in the Western Division will remain closed today, March 5, as they continue to operate as evacuation centres.

The affected schools are:

  • Nokonoko District School
  • Andrews Primary School
  • Nawaka District School
  • Nadi Muslim College
  • Lovu Sangam School

The Ministry of Education said all other schools in the Western Division may reopen.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and relevant authorities, confirmed the closures yesterday.

Schools in the Northern, Eastern and Central Divisions will continue to operate as normal, with weather conditions across the four divisions currently reported to be fine.

Parents and guardians have been advised to use their discretion when sending their children to school.

They are also reminded to take precautionary measures as Fiji remains in the hurricane season, with possible rain or localised flooding.

Parents are urged to ensure children do not attempt to cross flooded roads, creeks or rivers, and to avoid unnecessary travel while continuing to monitor official weather updates and advisories.

School heads have been advised to remain in close communication with their management committees, district education offices and divisional education offices for further weather-related updates from the ministry.

The Ministry of Education said the safety and welfare of students, teachers and families remain its highest priority, and it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates if necessary.
