Flash flood warning extended across Vanua Levu

A flash flood alert also remains active for eastern Viti Levu, from Navua to Nalawa in Ra, and across Vanua Levu.

A flash flood warning remains in force for low-lying and flood-prone areas in Labasa and has now been expanded to include Tabia, Wainikoro, Wailevu, Vunivesi, Savusavu, Bucaisau, Drawa, Nabalebale, Urata, Nakorotari, Nasekula, Batiri, Seaqaqa and Nasekawa, along with other southern low-lying coastal areas in Vanua Levu.

The Fiji Meteorological Service issued the update in its Special Weather Bulletin Number Nine at 3.30pm today.

A flash flood alert also remains active for eastern Viti Levu, from Navua to Nalawa in Ra, and across Vanua Levu.

The Fiji Met said an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud, showers and rain affects the northern and eastern parts of the country.”

The hazard identified is flash flooding caused by isolated heavy rain, with likely impacts including “flooding in drainage’s, small streams, low water bridges, iris crossings, roads and properties in low lying areas.”

The warning is based on information from the Fiji Flash Flood Guidance System, rainfall forecast models, weather radars and observation networks.
