All Fiji National University (FNU) campuses will be closed on Tuesday, April 7, as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu intensifies to a Category 2 system.

In a notice issued to staff and students, Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said the decision was made following advisories from the Fiji Meteorological Service and the National Disaster Management Office.

The closure is aimed at ensuring the safety and wellbeing of staff and students.

Lecturers and course coordinators have been asked to liaise with students regarding classes, while staff are required to work from home and maintain communication with their supervisors.

Students and staff have been urged to follow all weather advisories and take necessary precautions.

Those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to remain vigilant, move to higher ground if needed, and familiarise themselves with evacuation centres and emergency contacts.

The university’s Emergency Response Team will remain on standby to respond to any incidents during this period.

FNU has also advised anyone needing assistance to contact its Emergency Management Coordinator.
