The Fiji National University will continue to deliver excellence in training, says Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba.

Professor Nabobo-Baba made this powerful statement while delivering the welcoming address at the Diamond Jubilee Celebration for the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme earlier this month.

Hundreds of Fiji’s renowned top business employers and employees were part of the milestone event marking an achievement – 60 years of the scheme.

“As the University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, I am very proud to say that our institution has been at the forefront of providing quality education to our students, both in the classroom and through the apprenticeship programmes,” she said.

“Our commitment to providing hands-on, practical training has been a hallmark of our university. We are a dual-sector university, and we live by that name, it is a tradition that we are proud to continue.”

“At FNU, our mandate is to provide the country with the requisite numbers of trained persons in different trades as demanded for our economic development needs.”

“The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme, which is facilitated by the FNU’s National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC), is one of the means through which we fulfil this mandate.”

She added that FNU’s commitment to excellence in education and training would not stop.

Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, said the scheme has nurtured the talents of many individuals and empowered them to chart their own destiny.

“As we look back at the last 60 years, this scheme has been a catalyst of transforming dreams into reality and providing countless opportunities to aspiring individuals across our nations,” said Honourable Radrodro.

“It is humbling to see the journey of our apprentice. To date, there have been 8,773 individuals who have graduated under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme in their respective trades.”

“The programme materialised the dreams of young men and women to build self-confidence and necessary resources to pursue their passions and achievements.”

Manager National Apprenticeship and Trade Test, Alvin Lal, acknowledged the individuals who played a key role in the lead-up to the historic celebration.

“May the next 60 years be filled with even greater achievements, boundless opportunities, and unparalleled success,” Lal said.

“Together, let us continue to build a future that is prosperous, innovative, and shaped by the hands of skilled apprentices.”
